Pillow Addiction

Hello, my name is Lisa and I'm a pillow-holic.  I know it's a problem, but I just can't stop.  If I could change the throw pillows on my sofa every week, I would.  In fact, I think I have.  There's just something about a new pillow that can totally change your mood and the mood of your room.  It's a quick fix, and (usually) inexpensive, so why not?

These pillows are from UK designer Megan Park.  I'm loving the fallish colors and the anthro-vibe they've got going on...

From her previous collection...

I have no intentions of quitting any time soon.

What's cooking

I know you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but I love the fresh design of this cookbook...

Not only would it look fabulous sitting on my kitchen counter, but I'm sure it has some really great recipes in it, too.  Vefa's Kitchen has been called "the first comprehensive bible of Greek food" and contains over 700 recipes of traditional mediterranean cuisine.  I like the simplicity of the mediterranean diet, they stick to basic ingredients such as olive oil, legumes, fruits & vegetables, nuts, cheeses, and more fish than meat in most of their dishes.  That's my kind of food!

Trend Spotting- Herringbone Floors

I've been noticing a trend in some of my favorite photos lately...natural toned herringbone wood floors.  They can look modern or rustic, but always chic.  I SO want them in my next house...

I had to throw this last one in for the adorable pup lounging on the floor.  Isn't he precious?

Happy weekend

I've been on a cleaning & organizing kick around the house lately and I plan to continue working on my closet over the long holiday weekend.  I have a decent sized walk-in and my goal is to utilize the space better and turn it into a little dressing room.  I plan to re-paint, add a nice area rug, a cool light fixture, and maybe even a stool.   Here is some of my inspiration:

perfection, if only I had natural light in my closet. and built-ins. and that purse.

a whole room dedicated as a closet...yes, please!

a coat rack is genius for storing purses & hats in a closet

great utilization of empty space above the door

I hope you have something fun planned for the holiday weekend, I'll see you next week!

Community bookcase

Holly did a post about a community bookcase in her new city of Hannover, Germany where you are free to take a book as long as you leave a book of your own to replace it from a glass doored bookcase on the street.  I think this is a lovely concept, although  unfortunately it probably wouldn't work in many cities here in the states.  Maybe in some smaller, close-knit communities it could, or if the bookcase was located in a coffee shop or other local business so there would be some sort of supervision so that someone doesn't clean it out and sell all the books on ebay.  Do you think a community bookcase could work in your town?

If not, maybe you could do a variation on the concept and set up a book swap with friends & family.

Goodwill finds

I didn't have too much luck at the Goodwill 50% off sale last weekend, but I did make two purchases...

I'm not sure where I'll put this collage, but there's something about it I like and for $6, you can't go wrong.  I love finding original art at thrift stores, it is inexpensive and you're not going to see the same thing hanging in your neighbor's house which is a plus.  I have a gallery wall in my entry that is made up of half vintage & half etsy finds.  Since I don't spend a lot of money on the art, I don't feel guilty about switching it out when I feel the need to change it up.  In fact, I'm already planning to spruce it up a little...

Progress...

Remember this post?  Here's a peek at what's been occupying my evenings for the last couple weeks.  I like it so far, but I'm starting to understand Jonathan Adler's $175 price tag for the original bargello pillow...needlepoint is pretty time consuming.

what the finished project will look like

What do you think?
